Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin is executive producer of Kevin Costner’s The West, an eight-part documentary premiering Memorial Day on the History Channel. Produced with Kevin Costner, the series explores the complex history of the American West, including Native American resistance, settlers, soldiers, and gold miners.
Goodwin emphasizes the importance of teaching full, honest history, stating, “We overcome things,” when reflecting on challenges like the Civil Rights Movement. The series aims to present a raw, balanced look at America’s past and how the West shaped the country.
The West premieres May 28 with a triple episode, followed by weekly episodes every Tuesday.
