Kevin Costner Reflects on Retirement and What’s Still on His Bucket List

Hollywood icon Kevin Costner is no stranger to reinvention. With a decades-long career spanning blockbuster films, television triumphs like Yellowstone, and even directing and producing, Costner has carved out a legendary place in entertainment history. Now, at a reflective stage in life, the actor is opening up about the idea of retirement—and the personal dreams that still remain on his bucket list.

In a recent interview, Costner spoke candidly about what the future holds. “Retirement is a word people throw around a lot,” he said. “But for me, it’s not about stopping—it’s about choosing what matters most.” While the 69-year-old actor has no immediate plans to step away from filmmaking, he admits he’s more selective about the projects he takes on.

“I’ve done the big films, the long shoots, the heavy roles. Now, it’s about the passion projects,” he explained. One of those is his ambitious multi-part Western epic Horizon: An American Saga, a story he’s been working on for over a decade. “That’s something I had to do for myself,” he said.

When asked if there’s anything left on his bucket list, Costner smiled. “Absolutely. I’d love to travel more—quiet places, meaningful places. And I’ve always wanted to write a novel. Not a screenplay, but something more personal. I think there’s still a story or two in me that doesn’t belong on a screen.”

Despite his achievements, Costner remains grounded. “I feel lucky. I’ve been able to live so many dreams already. But I think we should all have a few things left undone—keeps us curious, keeps us going.”

As fans await his next move, one thing is certain: Kevin Costner may be thinking about life beyond the spotlight, but his creative spirit shows no signs of slowing down.
