Legal and Financial Challenges with Horizon: An American Saga

Costner’s ambitious Western film series, Horizon: An American Saga, has encountered significant setbacks. The first installment, released in 2024, grossed only $11 million against a $100 million budget, despite Costner investing over $50 million of his own funds and mortgaging his Santa Barbara property . This financial shortfall has led to legal disputes involving New Line Cinema, City National Bank, and Costner’s production company, Horizon Series, over alleged breaches in co-financing agreements .

Despite these challenges, Costner remains committed to the project. He has completed the second chapter, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2024, and has begun production on the third installment. A fourth film is also in development .
